 History of Purandar Fort  1. Introduction: Purandar Fort is a historic fort located in the Pune district of Maharashtra. It stands at an elevation of approximately 4,472 feet (1,363 meters) above sea level and holds great historical significance, especially in relation to the Maratha Empire. 2. Construction: The fort is believed to have been built during the 11th or 12th century by the Yadava dynasty. Later, it came under the rule of the Bahmani Sultans, the Nizamshahi, and the Adilshahi. 3. Maratha Rule: In the 1630s , Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured the fort from the Mughals. In 1665 , the Treaty of Purandar was signed between the Mughals and the Marathas, under which Shivaji Maharaj had to hand over the fort to the Mughal Empire. However, in 1670, Shivaji Maharaj recaptured the fort, making it a key part of the Maratha Empire once again. 4.
