The Lal Qila The Red Fort (Lal Qila), located in Delhi, India, is a historic fort and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1639. it served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors for nearly 200 years, until 1857. The Red Fort (Lal Qila) was constructed between 1638 and 1648 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, the same ruler who built the Taj Mahal. It was designed to serve as the new capital after Shah Jahan shifted the Mughal capital from Agra to Shahjahanabad (modern-day Old Delhi). Architecture: The fort is made of red sandstone, giving it its iconic name. It is an excellent example of Mughal architecture, blending Persian, Timurid, and Indian styles.
